This may be the best decision I’ve made in a decade. In August, we came up with a new acronym around our home and a tradition was born. Our boys take this very seriously now. Consider starting one at your home, too? Gratitude is powerful stuff.

Great way to mentor and nurture gratitude for big things and little things. I bet there will lots of families giving this a try. Thanks for helping us all give thanks.
We do something similar called ‘best and worst’ and we will go around the table and share the best part of our day and the worst part of our day. And you’re right… They DO start storing their experiences to share and sometimes they can’t wait until dinner to share, like the other morning when our 5yo added bubbles to his morning bath without our knowledge and turned on the jets and the bubbles grew over 5′ tall! The kids were building tunnels in them and laughing and enjoying, with such pride from their accomplishment. Even though it was only 7am in the morning, our son declared “this is definitely my ‘best’ today!” ;) …. Great tradition. So glad you shared.
I am amazed when I have dinner at friend’s homes that their dinners surround watching TV. This is sad as conversation with one another is dissipating. Being grateful every day is the true essence of contentment and joy. Thank you for sharing this wonderful family tradition.
Great post – liked it.
We have a similar meal-oriented tradition which we call “what was I most grateful for today?”. A lot of the time the answers rotate from people in our family, the fact that someone went to work to earn the money that bought the dinner, the yummy pizza or homemade dinner on our plates, or something more innocuous such as the fact that it didn’t rain today (not so often in Seattle!).
